Title: Geekerella

Author: Ashley Poston

Cinderella goes to the con in this fandom-fueled twist on the classic fairy tale.

Part romance, part love letter to nerd culture, and all totally adorbs, Geekerella is a fairy tale for anyone who believes in the magic of fandom. Geek girl Elle Wittimer lives and breathes Starfield, the classic sci-fi series she grew up watching with her late father. So when she sees a cosplay contest for a new Starfield movie, she has to enter. The prize? An invitation to the ExcelsiCon Cosplay Ball, and a meet-and-greet with the actor slated to play Federation Prince Carmindor in the reboot. With savings from her gig at the Magic Pumpkin food truck (and her dad’s old costume), Elle’s determined to win…unless her stepsisters get there first.

Teen actor Darien Freeman used to live for cons—before he was famous. Now they’re nothing but autographs and awkward meet-and-greets. Playing Carmindor is all he’s ever wanted, but the Starfield fandom has written him off as just another dumb heartthrob. As ExcelsiCon draws near, Darien feels more and more like a fake—until he meets a girl who shows him otherwise.

Oh wow I can’t believe I’ve read more than 10 books this month. I guess my reading slump is history (just remembered I have exams in 3 weeks ah)

This book was reading a really cute fanfictions which has loads of real life traces. It’s a really pleasant retelling, and officially in my top 10.

How can I describe this? It’s an adorable love letter to us, well, geeks. I’ve cried more than 2 times and shouted ”NERDS UNITE” . Rather simple, it tackles deeper subjects such as ‘how media controls the celebrities’ and ‘judging people by their appereances’. It is very important to understand that people, most of the time, let other people see what they want them to, but that sometimes is not who they really are.

Towards the end, it becomes really frustrating and it pushed me to skim-read a bit. It’s just fdgjhknhd do you get me? I wanted the charade to be over and them to be happy, but no. It was almost like the universe was comploting against them (ha look at that reference).

I found identifying with the characters very easy. These days, it’s very common to find friends on the internet, so for me, the story felt very very very real. It pushes you into believing in what you love.

I’ve finished it in one day and it’s really easy to read. Definitely, recommending it.

Look to the stars. Aim. Ignite

It’s easier to be who you want to be when you aren’t trying to be who everyone thinks you are

The book’s been released earlier this month,so go check it out.
