Series: Penryn and the End of Days

Author: Susan Ee

Number of books: 3 (The series was originally expected to be 5 books, but will end as a trilogy.)

Genre: YA, Fantasy, Apocalyptic, Fiction

Penryn is trying to survive. Because after the angels came to destroy the modern world there are no rules. Streets are ruled by gangs and angels are hunting for humans. When her sister is kidnapped Penryn will do everything she can to find her even if it means working with the enemy. Everything could happen in this new dangerous world.

I wanna start by saying that I started these books because of their covers. Just look how simple, but amazing they are. I didn’t have lots of expectations and maybe this is why I really liked it.

I don’t wanna compare them with other books, because they would look like slaves in front of kings and queens. They are well written with a lots of action. We have a strong female character who made me keep reading this.

Penryn is not the super dupper hero who saves the world alone by magically falling in love with an angel. If you think this trilogy is about that, you’re super dupper wrong. My favourite thing about these books was that we have romance which doesn’t alter the message behind this. In the second book, the lovey-dovey boy doesn’t even appear too much. Penryn knows how to fight alone, bearing the responsability to keep her family safe.

Raffe is some sarcastic angel who knows but he doesn’t know what he wants, see my problem? He cares about his wings too much. I liked how he changes to the end of the story.

Paige, Penryn’s sister and Penryn’s mother were rocking these post-apocalyptic grounds. It’s funny how Penryn tries to protect them, when obviously, they can handle the situation themselves. Eventually, she understands that.

If you want to leave the cage of sappy romance, this is what you’re looking for.
